Cedric K. H. Goh is an architectural and interior designer by profession, a self-taught artist and an avid creator. Born and raised in Penang, he received his B.Arch from University of Oklahoma and M.Arch from University of Pennsylvania.
He has always appreciated visual art as well as the tactile form of creativity expressed through design. Both requiring significant creative intervention, the intertwining relationship between art and design is indistinct, yet profoundly inspiring. He possesses an innate desire to seek out and uncover creative possibilities, always searching for creative challenges, finding inspiration from rigidly structured processes, repurposing mundane objects and re-energising outdated ideas. He spent years exploring techniques and ideas without selling any art, believing that art is an intensely intimate form of self expression and a personal journey of self-discovery.
An artist's journey truly begins when art becomes a gift of sharing a personal sense of beauty and view of our world. Hence, in a stroke of luck and a chanced incident presented an opportunity for him to rediscover his passion for art & design in the form of handcrafting exquisite frame art pieces.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Unlike drawings and traditional paintings, handcrafted frame artwork requires exquisite artistry combining exceptional creativity, handcrafting work, art and design skills. Never identical, the handcrafted frames are intricately designed artwork with butterfly specimens carefully prepared, preserved and mounted to tell a little story or convey simple beauty in a completely unique perspective. Conceptualised, designed and artistically crafted by hand, they are unique pieces of artwork, combining three dimensional craft with two dimensional graphic art, resulting in a completely unique piece of artwork.

This artwork is an honest representation of some enlightened thoughts I had about my last twenty years of working life. It was marked by episodes of melancholy and troubled days as well as bright cheerful moments resulting from years of persistent hard work. From that, I found peace and gratitude knowing that in anyone's life, there will always be moments when the sun will shine brightly and days when thunderstorm seems to cause long dreadful days.
The silver lining to all that is to treasure those joyful moments when the sun shines, butterflies dancing away into the bright blue sky.

What inspired this piece is the thought of using art and exquisite composition of butterflies as the medium to bring awareness to people - the importance of nature, without which there is no place for human beings to thrive. Through art, we can begin to share the beauty of nature that we seem to have taken for granted so easily. Such delicate and beautiful creatures when seen up-close frozen in time, will bring joy and smile to those who would otherwise unable to chance upon its graceful fluttering presence.

This was the beginning of finding inner peace. The process of discovering this piece was rather unusual, being lost in a calm and restful place, away from anxiety, pain, sadness and grief. Beautiful composition is very often born out of a blissfully calm state of mind. From a core of inner darkness, speckles of light unfold into a prism of colours, transforming itself into a bright blossom.

Nothing is ever the same. It is the impermanence of existence in which everything changes. When we understand this insight, we will see life very differently. When we must recognise the inevitable change brought about by passing of time, we will appreciate the present. Very different from "live for today worry about tomorrow later" sort of attitude. Rather, it's about seeing and appreciating what is in front of us. Every sip, every smile and every insignificant conversation we have with our love ones will be priceless.

Awakened by our current troubled days with such uncertainty, I began to see clearly how fragile and unpredictable life is. This piece is a graceful acceptance of such turbulent times and with it, I hope we all find peace within each of us. Observing the world in a constant flow, our hearts at ease in a state of inertia, is the beginning of finding a quiet place. That which offers the realm of stillness where we may find peace.
